If you stumbled across this blog post, we’re so glad you did! We are thrilled to announce the launch of BrUMO, a new mathematics competition for high schoolers set to take place in early April of 2025 on campus at Brown University!

What is BrUMO?

Founded by a dedicated team of Brown University students and supported by Brown’s world-renowned Applied Mathematics Department, BrUMO seeks to ignite a passion for mathematics and its real-world applications. At BrUMO, we’re striving to draw inspiration from some of the most well-regarded math competitions. If you’ve attended events like HMMT, SMT, BMT, CMIMC, MMATHS, DMM, or PUMaC in the past, you’ll find us to be a similarly engaging and challenging competition, but with a fresh perspective and unique activities to make the experience our own. This event is designed to be inclusive and engaging, welcoming students from diverse backgrounds all across the world. Whether you're a seasoned math competitor or a curious newcomer, BrUMO offers a supportive space to explore advanced mathematical concepts while having fun.

The Unique BrUMO Experience

The BrUMO team is focused on building a competition that embodies the spirit of our home institution, Brown University. Here at Brown, rigorous academics exist within a vibrant and supportive community. Through BrUMO, we hope to inspire these same values. While the competition will center around formal exams, our team is also organizing engaging activities—such as math-themed scavenger hunts, puzzles, and campus tours—to bring fun and connection to breaks throughout the event.
